Why We Built Trelis
If you have kids in travel sports, school clubs, or just modern life, you already know the feeling.
You’re sitting at your kitchen counter on a Sunday evening with three kids—each with their own school calendar, TeamSnap feed, practice schedule, games, and performances. You have work meetings in Google Calendar, your spouse has Outlook, you have 10 iCals syncing, and somewhere in your text messages is a coach’s update about a field change.
Modern family life isn’t a calendar problem. It’s air traffic control.
We didn’t build Trelis because the world needed another AI chatbot. We built Trelis out of survival for our own family:
- The Babysitter & Grandparent ProblemWe needed babysitters to know the schedule so they could drive the kids to events, and we needed to assign drivers every week so we knew who was driving. Grandparents wanted to know when and where the games and performances were. But giving them full access to our calendars meant flooding them with our doctor appointments, personal errands, and work calls—not to mention downloading app after app for every travel sports team. We built Trelis so Grandma and Grandpa can see the soccer games, hockey tournaments, and dance recitals—and absolutely nothing else. No logins, no clutter, just the moments that matter.
- Sadie’s TournamentsAnyone who has spent a weekend in a hotel waiting for a bracket schedule update knows the drill. After the seeding rounds, you need to know who you play next. We wanted an assistant that could read the tournament schedule, track field and rink moves, and keep everyone on the same page without having to refresh a webpage every 15 minutes.
- The Drive-Time MathWith three kids, a calendar time is only half the battle. If Zach has practice at 5:30 PM across town and it starts pouring rain, when do you actually need to leave the driveway? Trelis doesn’t just show an event block—it checks the route, factors in the rain buffer, verifies who is driving, and tells you: “Depart by 4:15 PM.” When we were lucky enough to carpool with another family or two, we wanted to be able to calculate that multi-stop pickup and drop-off route and schedule automatically.
- Smart Driver AssignmentWhen two kids have practice at the exact same time, normal calendars sound an alarm and give you anxiety. Trelis simply asks who is driving who, assigns Dad to hockey and Mom to soccer, and clears the conflict.
An Assistant That Handles Everything Else
We created one of the smartest assistants on the market:
- In the KitchenI am an avid cook. I want to keep my recipes in one place and integrate them directly with my grocery shopping list. Snap a picture of your refrigerator contents, and Trelis recommends what to make.
- For the TeamAsk it for a restaurant recommendation—like where to find a restaurant for the entire team after a game for 30 people on short notice.
- On the RoadWe also created a presence system not just for your family, but for friends, teammates, and others. Create a presence circle for as little as an hour so you can caravan together to an away tournament, or get an alert the moment your kid arrives at practice, home, school, or wherever you choose.
- Everyday IntelligenceSnap a picture of a unique light bulb and it identifies the exact replacement. Ask it about repairing your car, researching a competitor, drafting a Word document, building an Excel spreadsheet, or creating a PowerPoint deck. It monitors websites for price drops and sales. Plus it remembers. Everything. And there is no need to understand how to write an AI prompt. Just use your own language.
This is just a handful of features and functionality. There is so much more inside this family assistant, and I am constantly coming up with new ideas.
Built with 30 Years of IT Rigor
As a 30-year IT professional, I built Trelis with Security, Responsibility, and Privacy in mind:
- SecurityEncryption at rest in our databases where your data resides, and in transit to your devices. We take great care with our code and infrastructure.
- ResponsibilityAI is powerful. It should only have access to the specific data it needs to be your assistant and help you run your life.
- PrivacyWe don’t sell your data, track you, or use any of your family’s information or conversations to train AI models. You can export or delete your data at any time.
Trelis is the family operating system we wished existed. It’s designed to take the invisible cognitive load of running a household off your plate, so you can stop managing logistics and start enjoying your family.
